حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ كَعْبٍ الْأَنْطَاكِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَمَّا اسْتَوَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اجْلِسُوا فَسَمِعَ ذَلِكَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ فَجَلَسَ عَلَى بَابِ الْمَسْجِدِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَرَآهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ تَعَالَ يَا عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا يُعْرَفُ مُرْسَلًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّمَا رَوَاهُ النَّاسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَخْلَدٌ هُوَ شَيْخٌ.

When the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم seated himself on the pulpit on a Friday he said, Sit down. Ibn Masud رضی اللہ عنہ heard that and sat down at the door of mosque, and when the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم saw him, he said: Come here, Abdullah bin Masud. Abu Dawud said: This tradition is known as mursal (the successor reports directly from the Prophet, omitting then name of the Companion). The people narrated it from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم on the authority of Ata. Makhlad is his teacher.
