حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ كَثِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا سِمَاكٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ:{‏‏‏‏ وَإِنَّ الشَّيَاطِينَ لَيُوحُونَ إِلَى أَوْلِيَائِهِمْ}[ سورة الأنعام آية: 121] يَقُولُونَ : مَا ذَبَحَ اللَّهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلُوا وَمَا ذَبَحْتُمْ أَنْتُمْ فَكُلُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ {وَلا تَأْكُلُوا مِمَّا لَمْ يُذْكَرِ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ} [ سورة الأنعام آية: 121].

Regarding the verse: But the evil ones ever inspire their friend to contend with you They used to say: Do not eat which Allah killed, but eat which you slaughtered. So Allah revealed the verse: Eat not of (meats) on which Allah's name hath not been pronounced . . . to the end of the verse.
