حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ فِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقِيلَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنَّهُ إِذَنْ يَمُوتُ مِنَ الْجُوعِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَذِنَ لَهُ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ فِي كُلِّ جُمْعَةٍ مَرَّتَيْنِ فَيَسْأَلُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ يَرْجِعُ.

He was told: 'O Messenger of Allah, in that case he will of starvation. So he allowed him to visit (the city) twice a week so that he might ask for food and go back.
