حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُتِيَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقِيلَ:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا فُلَانٌ تَقْطُرُ لِحْيَتُهُ خَمْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّا قَدْ نُهِينَا عَنِ التَّجَسُّسِ وَلَكِنْ إِنْ يَظْهَرْ لَنَا شَيْءٌ نَأْخُذْ بِهِ .

A man was brought to Ibn Masud رضی اللہ عنہ . He was told: This is so and so, and wine was dropping from his beard. Abdullah thereupon said: We have been prohibited to seek out (faults). If anything becomes manifest to us, we shall seize it.
