حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ رِبْعِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا نَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اللَّهُمَّ بِاسْمِكَ أَحْيَا وَأَمُوتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ .

When the prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم lay down on his bed (at night), he would say: O Allah! In Thy name I die and live. When he awoke, he said: praise be to Allah who has given us life after causing us to die and to whom we shall be resurrected.
