حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ السَّرْحِ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ وَهْبِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَخِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ:‏‏‏‏ اشْفَعُوا تُؤْجَرُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنِّي لَأُرِيدُ الْأَمْرَ فَأُؤَخِّرُهُ كَيْمَا تَشْفَعُوا فَتُؤْجَرُوا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اشْفَعُوا تُؤْجَرُوا .

Make intercession, you will be rewarded, for I purposely delay a matter so that you intercede and then you are rewarded. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: If you make intercession, you will be rewarded.
