حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عِيسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْحَارِثِ بْنِ شُبَيْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي عَمْرٍو الشَّيْبَانِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ أَحَدُنَا يُكَلِّمُ الرَّجُلَ إِلَى جَنْبِهِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَنَزَلَتْ:‏‏‏‏ وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ سورة البقرة آية 238 فَأُمِرْنَا بِالسُّكُوتِ وَنُهِينَا عَنِ الْكَلَامِ .

"We used to speak to the person next to us during the prayer during the prayer, (until) Allah revealed: And stand (in prayer) to Allah, devoutly obedient. So we were command to remain quite, and prohibited from speaking."
