حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي فُدَيْكٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ يَعْقُوبَ الزَّمْعِيِّ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ عَامِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ أَخْبَرَهُ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ أَخْبَرَهُ،‏‏‏‏ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَكُنْ بَيْنَ إِسْلَامِهِمْ،‏‏‏‏ وَبَيْنَ أَنْ نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ،‏‏‏‏ يُعَاتِبُهُمُ اللَّهُ بِهَا،‏‏‏‏ إِلَّا أَرْبَعُ سِنِينَ:‏‏‏‏ وَلا يَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ مِنْ قَبْلُ فَطَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ الأَمَدُ فَقَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَكَثِيرٌ مِنْهُمْ فَاسِقُونَ [سورة الحديد آية 16].

There was no more than four years between their becoming Muslim and the revelation of this Verse, by which Allah reprimanded them: “Lest they become as those who received the Scripture before, and the term was prolonged for them and so their hearts were hardened? And many of them were rebellious.” [57:16]
