حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ رَأَيْتُ السَّائِبَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ يَشُمُّ ثَوْبَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ مِمَّ ذَلِكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا وُضُوءَ إِلَّا مِنْ رِيحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ سَمَاعٍ .

I saw Sa'ib bin Yazid رضی اللہ عنہما sniffing his garment, and I said: 'Why (are you doing) that?' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah say: No ablution (is needed) unless there is an odor or a sound.
