أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَافَ سَبْعًا:‏‏‏‏ رَمَلَ ثَلَاثًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَشَى أَرْبَعًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَرَأَ:‏‏‏‏ وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلًّى سورة البقرة آية 125،‏‏‏‏ فَصَلَّى سَجْدَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَجَعَلَ الْمَقَامَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْكَعْبَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ اسْتَلَمَ الرُّكْنَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ خَرَجَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ فَابْدَءُوا بِمَا بَدَأَ اللَّهُ بِهِ .

The Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم performed Tawaf, walking rapidly (Raml) for three circuits, and walking at a normal pace for four. Then he recited: And take you the Maqam (place) of Ibrahim as a place of prayer. And prayed two Rak`ahs with the Maqam between him and the Ka`bah. Then he touched the Corner, then he went out and said: 'As-Safa and Al-Marwah are two of the symbols of Allah. We will start with that with which Allah started.'
