أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْأَعْلَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَنْبَأَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمُوسَى بْنُ عُلَيٍّ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ زَوْجَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ لَمَّا أُمِرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِتَخْيِيرِ أَزْوَاجِهِ بَدَأَ بِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي ذَاكِرٌ لَكِ أَمْرًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا عَلَيْكِ أَنْ لَا تُعَجِّلِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَتَّى تَسْتَأْمِرِي أَبَوَيْكِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ قَدْ عَلِمَ أَنَّ أَبَوَايَ لَمْ يَكُونَا لِيَأْمُرَانِّي بِفِرَاقِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ:‏‏‏‏ يَأَيُّهَا النَّبِيُّ قُلْ لأَزْوَاجِكَ إِنْ كُنْتُنَّ تُرِدْنَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا إِلَى قَوْلِهِ:‏‏‏‏ جَمِيلا [سورة الأحزاب آية 28]، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ أَفِي هَذَا أَسْتَأْمِرُ أَبَوَيَّ ؟ فَإِنِّي أُرِيدُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَسُولَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالدَّارَ الْآخِرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ:‏‏‏‏ ثُمَّ فَعَلَ أَزْوَاجُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَ مَا فَعَلْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يَكُنْ ذَلِكَ حِينَ قَالَ لَهُنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ وَاخْتَرْنَهُ طَلَاقًا مِنْ أَجْلِ أَنَّهُنَّ اخْتَرْنَهُ .

When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was commanded to give his wives the choice, he started with me and said: 'I am going to say something to you and you do not have to rush (to make a decision) until you consult your parents.' She said: He knew that my parents would never tell me to leave him. She said: Then he recited this Verse: 'O Prophet! Say to your wives: If you desire the life of this world, and its glitter, then come! I will make a provision for you and set you free in a handsome manner.' I said: 'Do I need to consult my parents concerning this? I desire Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, and His Messenger ﷺ, and the home of the Hereafter.' 'Aishah said: Then the wives of the Prophet all did the same as I did, and that was not counted as a divorce, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave them the choice and they chose him.
