أَخْبَرَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا سَيَّارٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَرِيرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَايَعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى السَّمْعِ وَالطَّاعَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَقَّنَنِي:‏‏‏‏ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتَ،‏‏‏‏ وَالنُّصْحِ لِكُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ .

I gave my pledge to the Prophet ﷺ to hear and obey, and he told me to add the words.' In as much as you can, and to be since toward every Muslim'.
