أَخْبَرَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ بَيْعِ الْوَلَاءِ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَنْ هِبَتِهِ .

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade selling loyalty or giving it away.
