أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ شُعْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَن سُلَيْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُرَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَرْبَعَةٌ مَنْ كُنَّ فِيهِ كَانَ مُنَافِقًا،‏‏‏‏ أَوْ كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ الْأَرْبَعِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏كَانَتْ فِيهِ خَصْلَةٌ مِنَ النِّفَاقِ حَتَّى يَدَعَهَا:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا حَدَّثَ كَذَبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا وَعَدَ أَخْلَفَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا عَاهَدَ غَدَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَإِذَا خَاصَمَ فَجَرَ .

The Prophet [ﷺ] said: There are four (traits), whoever has them is a hypocrite and whoever has one of them, then has one of the traits of hypocrisy, until he gives it up: When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; when he makes a covenant, he betrays it; and when he argues, he resorts to foul language.
