حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ بَكَّارٍ الدِّمَشْقِيُّ، يُقَالُ هُوَ:‏‏‏‏ مِنْ وَلَدِ بُسْرِ بْنِ أَرْطَاةَ صَاحِبِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ، عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْمُسَيِّبِ،‏‏‏‏ وَأبِى سَلَمَةَ،‏‏‏‏ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَلَا يُدْخِلْ يَدَهُ فِي الْإِنَاءِ حَتَّى يُفْرِغَ عَلَيْهَا مَرَّتَيْنِ أَوْ ثَلَاثًا فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي أَيْنَ بَاتَتْ يَدُهُ . وَفِي الْبَاب عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ،‏‏‏‏ وَجَابِرٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَعَائِشَةَ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ وَهَذَا حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ:‏‏‏‏ وَأُحِبُّ لِكُلِّ مَنِ اسْتَيْقَظَ مِنَ النَّوْمِ قَائِلَةً كَانَتْ أَوْ غَيْرَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْ لَا يُدْخِلَ يَدَهُ فِي وَضُوئِهِ حَتَّى يَغْسِلَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ أَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْسِلَهَا كَرِهْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَمْ يُفْسِدْ ذَلِكَ الْمَاءَ إِذَا لَمْ يَكُنْ عَلَى يَدِهِ نَجَاسَةٌ،‏‏‏‏ وقَالَ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ مِنَ النَّوْمِ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ فَأَدْخَلَ يَدَهُ فِي وَضُوئِهِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَغْسِلَهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَعْجَبُ إِلَيَّ أَنْ يُهْرِيقَ الْمَاءَ،‏‏‏‏ وقَالَ إِسْحَاق:‏‏‏‏ إِذَا اسْتَيْقَظَ مِنَ النَّوْمِ بِاللَّيْلِ أَوْ بِالنَّهَارِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا يُدْخِلْ يَدَهُ فِي وَضُوئِهِ حَتَّى يَغْسِلَهَا.

The Prophet said: When on of you awakens in the night, then let him not put his hand into the vessel until he has poured water on two times, or three times, for indeed he does not know where his hand has spent the night. There are narration on this topic from Ibn 'Umar, Jabir, and 'A'ishah. Abu Eisa said: This Hadith is Hasan Sahih. Ash-Shafi said: "It is recommended for everyone who awakens from sleep, be it brief or otherwise, that he not put his hands into the water or wudu' until he washes them. If he were to enter his hands (in the vessel) before washes them then that would be disliked for him and it would not be spoil the water when there is no impurities on his hand." Ahmad bin Hanbal said, "When one awaken (from asleep) at night and enter his hand into the water for wudu before washing them, then it is preferred to me that he dump out the water." Ishaq said: "When he awakens from sleep in the night or the day, then he is not to put his hands into the water from wudu' until he washes them."
