When the Muslims were fighting with the people of Yamamah, who was one of those who used to write the Divine Revelation: Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہ sent for me after the (heavy) casualties among the warriors (of the battle) of Yamama (where a great number of Qurra' were killed). `Umar رضی اللہ عنہ was present with Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہ who said, `Umar رضی اللہ عنہ has come to me and said, The people have suffered heavy casualties on the day of (the battle of) Yamama, and I am afraid that there will be more casualties among the Qurra' (those who know the Qur'an by heart) at other battle-fields, whereby a large part of the Qur'an may be lost, unless you collect it. And I am of the opinion that you should collect the Qur'an." Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہ added, "I said to `Umar رضی اللہ عنہ , 'How can I do something which Allah's Apostle has not done?' `Umar رضی اللہ عنہ said (to me), 'By Allah, it is (really) a good thing.' So `Umar رضی اللہ عنہ kept on pressing, trying to persuade me to accept his proposal, till Allah opened my bosom for it and I had the same opinion as `Umar." (Zaid bin Thabit added:) `Umar رضی اللہ عنہ was sitting with him (Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہ ) and was not speaking. me). "You are a wise young man and we do not suspect you (of telling lies or of forgetfulness): and you used to write the Divine Inspiration for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ). Therefore, look for the Qur'an and collect it (in one manuscript). " By Allah, if he (Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہ ) had ordered me to shift one of the mountains (from its place) it would not have been harder for me than what he had ordered me concerning the collection of the Qur'an. I said to both of them, "How dare you do a thing which the Prophet has not done?" Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہ said, "By Allah, it is (really) a good thing. So I kept on arguing with him about it till Allah opened my bosom for that which He had opened the bosoms of Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہ and `Umar رضی اللہ عنہ . So I started locating Qur'anic material and collecting it from parchments, scapula, leaf-stalks of date palms and from the memories of men (who knew it by heart). I found with Khuza`ima two Verses of Surat-at-Tauba which I had not found with anybody else, (and they were):-- "Verily there has come to you an Apostle (Muhammad) from amongst yourselves. It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty He (Muhammad) is ardently anxious over you (to be rightly guided)" (9.128) The manuscript on which the Qur'an was collected, remained with Abu Bakr رضی اللہ عنہ till Allah took him unto Him, and then with `Umar رضی اللہ عنہ till Allah took him unto Him, and finally it remained with Hafsa, `Umar's daughter.

When the Prophet (ﷺ) arrived at Medina, the Jews were observing the fast on 'Ashura' (10th of Muharram) and they said, "This is the day when Moses became victorious over Pharaoh," On that, the Prophet (ﷺ) said to his companions, "You (Muslims) have more right to celebrate Moses' victory than they have, so observe the fast on this day."

Narrated Ibn `Abbas

He reciting: "No doubt! They fold up their breasts." (11.5) and asked him about its explanation. He said, "Some people used to hide themselves while answering the call of nature in an open space lest they be exposed to the sky, and also when they had sexual relation with their wives in an open space lest they be exposed to the sky, so the above revelation was sent down regarding them."

Narrated Ibn Abbas

"No doubt! They fold up their breasts." I said, "O Abu `Abbas! What is meant by "They fold up their breasts?" He said, "A man used to feel shy on having sexual relation with his wife or on answering the call of nature (in an open space) so this Verse was revealed:-- "No doubt! They fold up their breasts."

Narrated Muhammad bin `Abbas bin Ja`far

Ibn `Abbas رضی اللہ عنہما recited:-- "No doubt! They fold up their breasts in order to hide from Him. Surely! Even when they cover themselves with their garments.." (11.5) some other people quoted from Hadrat Ibn-e-Abbas يَسْتَغْشُونَ'' : رضی اللہ عنہما'' They cover their heads ''سِيءَ بِهِمْ‏'' misturst them i.e his people. ''وَضَاقَ بِهِمْ‏'': From his guest. ''بِقِطْعٍ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ‏'': in the darkness of the night. Mujahid says: ''أُنِيبُ‏'' means: I repent.

Narrated `Amr

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Allah said, 'Spend (O man), and I shall spend on you." He also said, "Allah's Hand is full, and (its fullness) is not affected by the continuous spending night and day." He also said, "Do you see what He has spent since He created the Heavens and the Earth? Nevertheless, what is in His Hand is not decreased, and His Throne was over the water; and in His Hand there is the balance (of justice) whereby He raises and lowers (people). ''اعْتَرَاكَ‏'': smite you with something. ''عَرَوْتُهُ'': I found him ''لعروہ'' and ''اعتران'' have been derived from that. ''آخِذٌ بِنَاصِيَتِهَا‏'': is in his kingdom and power. ''عَنِيدٌ'', ''عَنُودٌ'' and ''عَانِدٌ'' are synonyms. i.e. extremely headstrong. ''اسْتَعْمَرَكُمْ‏'' means: Cause you inhabit therein as it is said: ''أَعْمَرْتُهُ الدَّارَ فَهْىَ عُمْرَى'' I have given him this house to live therein as long as he exists. ''نكرهم‏'', ''أنكرهم'' and ''استعمركم‏'' are synonyms. ''حميد فعيل'' are on the meter of ''فعيل'' derived each from ''ماجد‏'' and ''محمود'' means who has been praised. ''سجيل'' means: Hard and huge thing. ''سجين'' means the same for ''لام'' and ''ن'' (alphabet 'I' and 'n') both are similar. So Tameem bin Muqbil, a poet, says: (Many pedestrians, in forenoon, strike hard with swords in a way which has been willed by brave men.)

A man came up to him and said, "O Abu `Abdur Rahman!" or said, "O Ibn `Umar! Did you hear anything from the Prophet (ﷺ) about An35 Najwa?" Ibn `Umar said, "I heard the Prophet (ﷺ) saying, 'The Believer will be brought near his Lord." (Hisham, a sub-narrator said, reporting the Prophet's words), "The believer will come near (his Lord) till his Lord covers him with His screen and makes him confess his sins. (Allah will ask him), 'Do you know (that you did) 'such-and-such sin?" He will say twice, 'Yes, I do.' Then Allah will say, 'I concealed it in the world and I forgive it for you today.' Then the record of his good deeds will be folded up. As for the others, or the disbelievers, it will be announced publicly before the witnesses: 'These are ones who lied against their Lord." Shaiban with reference to Qatadah has reported it from Sufwan.

"If you are innocent, then Allah will declare your innocence: but if you have committed a sin, then ask for Allah's Forgiveness and repent to him." `Aisha رضی اللہ عنہا said, "By Allah, I find no example for my case except that of Joseph's father (when he said), 'So (for me) patience is most fitting.' When the Prophet (ﷺ) realized that the Quraish had delayed in embracing Islam, he said, "O Allah! Protect me against their evil by afflicting them with seven (years of famine) like the seven years of (Prophet) Joseph." So they were struck with a year of famine that destroyed everything till they had to eat bones, and till a man would look towards the sky and see something like smoke between him and it. Allah said:-- "Then watch you (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce a kind of smoke plainly visible." (44.10) And Allah further said:-- "Verily! We shall withdraw the punishment a little, Verily you will return (to disbelief)." (44.15) (Will Allah relieve them from torture on the Day of Resurrection?) Hadrat Aishah رضی اللہ عنہا was inquired of Allah's saying {‏حَتَّى إِذَا اسْتَيْأَسَ الرُّسُلُ‏} that whether there is '' أَكُذِبُوا'' or ''كُذِّبُوا''? Hadrat Aishah رضی اللہ عنہا said: ''كُذِّبُوا'' is with double alphabet ''ذ'' . I (Hadrat Urwah) submitted: The prophets were sure that their people had belied them, then why the word ''ظَّن'' had been used here. She said: By my life! The prophet were really sure of it. I submitted: What is harm in reading '' وَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ قَدْ كُذِبُوا'' (with single ''ذ'')? She said: Allah forbid! The Apostle cannot think of their Lord in this way. I submitted: What is the correct interpretation of this verse? She said: It is about the followers of the Apostles who believed in their Lords and testified the Apostles, when they were put to trial for an extensive period of time and Allah's help got late, then the Apostles lost the hope for the believing of those of their followers who belied them as well as they thought their followers would also belie them, so at that very time, Allah's help came to them.

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "When a Muslim is questioned in his grave, he will testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger (ﷺ), and that is what is meant by Allah's Statement:-- "Allah will keep firm those who believe with a Word that stands firm in this world and in the Hereafter." The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "When Allah has ordained some affair in the Heaven, the angels beat with their wings in obedience to His statement, which sounds like a chain dragged over a rock." (`Ali and other sub-narrators said, "The sound reaches them.") "Until when fear is banished from their (angels) hearts, they (angels) say, 'What was it that your Lord said? They say, 'The truth; And He is the Most High, the Most Great.' (34.23) Then those who gain a hearing by stealing (i.e. devils) will hear Allah's Statement:-- 'Those who gain a hearing by stealing, (stand one over the other like this). (Sufyan, to illustrate this, spread the fingers of his right hand and placed them one over the other horizontally.) A flame may overtake and burn the eavesdropper before conveying the news to the one below him; or it may not overtake him till he has conveyed it to the one below him, who in his turn, conveys it to the one below him, and so on till they convey the news to the earth. (Or probably Sufyan said, "Till the news reaches the earth.") Then the news is inspired to a sorcerer who would add a hundred lies to it. His prophecy will prove true (as far as the heavenly news is concerned). The people will say. 'Didn't he tell us that on such-and-such a day, such-and-such a thing will happen? We have found that is true because of the true news heard from heaven." The above hadith is also narrated by Abu Huraira, starting: 'When Allah has ordained some affair...') In this narration the word foreteller is added to the word wizard.

(While we were going for the Battle of Tabuk and when we reached the places of the dwellers of Al- Hijr), Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said about the dwellers of Al-Hijr (to us). "Do not enter (the dwelling places) of these people unless you enter weeping, but if you weep not, then do not enter upon them, lest you be afflicted with what they were afflicted with."

While I was praying, the Prophet (ﷺ) passed by and called me, but I did not go to him till I had finished my prayer. When I went to him, he said, "What prevented you from coming?" I said, "I was praying." He said, "Didn't Allah say" "O you who believes Give your response to Allah (by obeying Him) and to His Apostle." (8.24) Then he added, "Shall I tell you the most superior Sura in the Qur'an before I go out of the mosque?" When the Prophet (ﷺ) intended to go out (of the Mosque), I reminded him and he said, "That is: "Al hamdu-li l-lahi Rabbil-`alamin (Surat-al-fatiha)' which is the seven oft repeated verses (Al-Mathani) and the Grand Qur'an which has been given to me."
