Umar ibn al-Khattab reports that the value of an action is connected to its intention. The narration illustrates this through migration undertaken for different purposes. It opens Sahih al-Bukhari and directs attention to a person’s motive as well as the outward act.
Umar’s report connects actions with their motives, using migration as its example. Al-Nawawi includes it at the beginning of his selection, with attribution to al-Bukhari and Muslim. Comparing the cited versions helps distinguish the shared teaching from differences in wording and translation.
